    The syllabus for students who take the exam for 6 academic credits is the following:

    2) M.T. Giusti, Relazioni pericolose. Italia fascista e Russia comunista, Il Mulino, 2023
    3) G. Quagliariello, Storia d’Italia in dodici romanzi. Il racconto del paese dall’unità al terrorismo (1860-1980), Rubbettino, 2025
    The students, who did not take an exam in Contemporary History or Social History in a previous three-year course of study, are requested to contact the professor in order to modify the program. 
  • Learning objectives:

    The syllabus aims at studying the birth of the Welfare State in Italy starting from the end of XIX century to the 1980s. Referring to the general objectives, and taking into account the objectives referred to the Course of Study, at the end of the course the students will have to reach a critical attitude which allows them to evaluate the cause-effect relationships of the historical and social events; they will have to analyze the historical and social phenomena; to compare historical events; make comparisons with other disciplines on some historical aspects (such as Sociology or Anthropology). As regards the specific objectives of the discipline, students will have to gain a correct command of the specific historical language referred to the studied contents; to know the historiography about specific themes; they will have to collect bibliographic material and information; to grasp connections of events; to report to the working group on a specific topic; to write a text with notes; to know how to analyze a political case or a social question in a critical way. 
  • Prerequisite:

    The students are requested to have already taken an exam in Contemporary History or Social History in a previous three-year course of study. 
  • Teaching methods:

    Lectures for 36 hours. Use of computer and video-projector. Film screening related to the issue of the program. 
  • Exam type:

    The final assessment consists of an oral exam on the entire syllabus. The aim is to assess students’ skills and in particular, an understanding of the issues discussed during the course, an appropriate knowledge of the bibliography in the course program, a correct command of the specific language as well as critical and methodological abilities will be evaluated. The grading scale goes from 1 to 30 with honours (cum laude): 1-17 fail, 18-21 sufficient, 22-24 fair, 25-27 good, 28-29 very good, 30-30 with honours (cum laude) excellent.
